I Am the Black Child!

BlackHeritageCollage

They're Baaaaaaaack! For those of you who noticed that a sizeable portion of our Youth Church went AWOL on the weekend of February 23-25, have no fear. They were in good hands and all have returned to Tallahassee in the best of health and none the worse for wears! As you may or may not know the Youth Church, accompanied by parents and other chaperones, attended Black Heritage 2001 in Orlando, hosted by the connectional WMS/YPD. By all accounts the event was truly rewarding, educational, and filled with the spirit of AME fellowship and God's love. Our editor, who gratefully acted as "chauffer" for the group, has penned a reflection of his Black Heritage experience entitled, "I Am the Black Child". Please click the link below and find out more on all that occurred in Orlando and discover just why those Flipperites who attended are all so overly proud of our vibrant youth!

In keeping with its commitment to not only support our own youth but that of the surrounding community as well, the Flipper Chapel Board of Christian Education will host it's first annual Greek Day on Sunday, March 11 during the 11:00am worship service. Co-chaired by dedicated Flipperites Sis(s). Carrie Herring and Lucille Cofield, the event will honor the young men and woman who are members of the area's numerous hard-working fraternities and sororities who commit much of their time to serving Tallahassee through various charitable causes. Like the brothers of FAMU's Betu Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc (left). Phi Beta Sigma member Damon Miller will be the keynote speaker as the congregation will witness its ranks joined by delegations of Deltas, Kappas, Alphas, and AKAs dressed in their respective colors and regalia. It is anticipated that each group in attendance will display information pertaining to their organization in the Memorial Hall in order that we as a church might become more familiarized with all that they do for the community as a whole collectively.

Show Your Colors!

CandisPrideOn Sunday, March 11 the Sarah Doyle Way Area WMS/YPD will host the third annual Youth Recognition Ceremony/Night in Green and White at St. Phillip (Monticello) AME Church, Rev. William Lamar IV, pastor. The event will bring recognition to those of our youth who have shown excellence in education and fund raising. This year Flipper will be proudly represented by Shebrennia Nelson and Christopher Underhill. Our very own Ashlee Worlds, last year's overall winner, will share MC duties with New Mt. Zion's Raphael Campbell Jr. Organizers of the event, which will commence at 7pm, intend to hand out an award for the youth who raises the most funds on behalf of the Tallahassee District WMS/YPD as well as certificates to those students who were on their respective honor rolls within the surrounding school districts. The overall winner will also be the reciprient of a \$100 savings bond. For those of you who can, please make plans to be on hand and show your support for all of our outstanding youths!
