What's Happening!
Christians, Honoring the Law

NikkiAnnClark On Sunday, March 18 Flipper Chapel's Board of Christian Education will host our 6th Annual Friends and Family Day Observance. Chaired by Flipperite Atty. Thomas Brown, the service is traditionally dedicated to the members of Tallahassee's outstanding African American legal profession who have shown themselves to be substantial Christian role models and leaders for not only our impressionable youth of today, but also the entire African American community at large. Indeed, the theme for the event will be, "Christian Leadership: Outstanding, Unequaled, and God-Fearing!" With that in mind, Atty. Brown has invited Leon County Circuit Judge Nikki Ann Clark to be the keynote speaker for the occasion. At press, we were still awaiting confirmation of her acceptance. Notable as a tough-talking, cognizant jurist specializing in juvenile justice, Judge Clark's singular serious-minded style and common-sense approach captivated the nation during the recent Florida 2000 Election crisis. Her historic and strict merit-based ruling in the Seminole County absentee ballot case played a pivotal role in the outcome of the election. In a year when the Rattler community has realized it long-fought struggle to regain FAMU's once-acclaimed College of Law, it is significant that we as a church come together during this event to recognize the contributions and dedication of our area's hard-working African American judges, attorneys, aides, and other inspiring officers of the law. In this way we might do our part to encourage those among our youth who might be considering a career in the legal profession in the near future.

Never To Be Forgotten

CandlesOn March 24-25 Praise will host Flipper's first annual Remembrance Day Observance. In keeping with the theme, "We Loved Them Dearly, God Loved Them Best" the event will honor those beloved Flipperites who, during their time among us, dedicated their time and efforts to the overall success and greatness that is Flipper. Indeed, each year Praise will pay tribute to six Flipperites whose contributions to Fllipper should never be forgotten. This year our honorees are: the late Bro. James Johnson, Sis. Katie Johnson. Bro. Tommy Johnson, Sis. Barcelona Livingston, Sis. Betty Williams Moody, and Sis. Annie Wilson. The surviving members of the families of these dedicated individuals will be our special guest during the Remembrance Day Prayer Breakfast to be held on Saturday, March 24 at 8:30am. The honorees' families will again be our special guests during the Remembrance Day Worship Service on Sunday, March 25. Rev. Ralph L. Wilson, presiding elder of the Tallahassee District, has graciously accepted our invitation to deliver the keynote address and the FAMU Concert Choir will be on hand to perform during the service. The Remembrance Day Committee, chaired by our editor Bro. Michael Catledge, is planning a solemn and unique service which will include instrumental music, a specially-performed chant, heart-felt reflections on the lives and deeds of our honorees, and a candle-lighting ceremony in recognition of those near and dear among us whom "God loved best" in the past year. If you have someone whom you would like recognized during the ceremony, please submit their name by utilizing the submission forms located in the Memorial Hall. If you wish to place an "In Memoriam" ad in the 2001 Remembrance Day Commemorative Program, please contact Sis. China Evans for more details. We at Praise hope this service will serve as a time for Flipper to pause and reflect on those whose past sacrifices contributed significantly to the present and future success of our church. For one can never move forward by forgetting what came before!
