Two priests and a rabbi were discussing what portion of the weekly collection they kept for themselves. The first priest explained that he drew a circle on the ground, stepped a few paces back and pitched the money towards the circle. What landed in the circle he kept and what landed outside the circle God kept.
The second priest claimed that his method was almost the same, except that what landed outside the circle went to the priest and the money that landed inside the circle God kept. The rabbi said, "I've got you both beat. I throw the money into the air and what God wants, God takes."

Youth News
"Say It Ain't So"

BishopMcKenzieWell, fellow Flipperites' we have good news and bad news to relay to those who are not already in the know. Our very own Assist/Youth Editor, Sis. Viella Balloon, will be departing Flipper this month following her upcoming nuptuals on Aug.5. ViElla will be joined in holy matrimony with Rev. Stacey Gerrod Lindsay, pastor of Brim Fountian AME in nearby Crawfordville during a ceremony to be celebrated at Jeslamb AME over in Madison. It goes without saying that "Vi" will be truly missed as she has been a integral part of the spiritual, intellectual, and faith-growing success of Flipper Chapel AME Church. Born Viella Janet Balloon to Rev. and Mrs. Dozier Balloon, Vi was a longtime attendee of Antioch AME Church over in Madison, her hometown, before transferring her membership to Flipper after assuming her present occupation with the City of Tallahassee. As a Flipperite, Sis. Balloon has served in various capacities--Steward, Choir member, Missionary, Church School teacher, Worship Director--and sponsored numerous auxiliaries--Step Team, Inspirational Dance Team, Deaf Minisity, the list just goes on and on. However, it has been her tireless dedication to the youth of Flipper that has been her most rewarding and outstanding contribution. Vi has excelled with such success as the Director of the Youth Church and the Sarah Doyle Way Area/YPD, a capacity which she will retain for the time being, that we at Flipper are truly going to be hard pressed to find a suitable replacement. Ever gracious and possessing a smile that is nothing but contagious, Sis. Balloon has been a V-ital, I-nspiring, E-ncouraging, L-oyal, L-oving, and A-ctive friend, confidante, and councelor to Flipper and the entire Flipper Family. In short, she's just been, well, "VIELLA"! Nuff said.

God Bless You Dear Vi, We At Flipper Wish You
and Rev. Lindsay Nothing But Happiness and God's Blessings!
"In The Race With Jesus: Road Rally 2000"

BishopMcKenzieLast Month Flipper had the pleasure of hosting this year's Vacation Bible School and, judging by the record attendance all week, the event was a great success. Held on July 17-21, the event boasted participation by the youth, young adult, and adult members of several churches from throughout the Greater Tallahassee area--including Fountian Chapel, New St. John, Mt. Pisgah, and various other AME churches as well as some representing other denominations. Sponsored by the Board of Christian Education, in conjunction with other entities, the five-day affair offered sessions from pre-k to adult, presided over by a dozen or so volunteer teachers. The highlight for each day was certainly the invigorating, fun-filled, and spirit-lifting energizers (Pastor Bell's singing withstanding!) held before each session. Attendees laughed, chuckled, and generally enjoyed themselves as they sang and did the intricate steps associated with such classics as "Father Abraham" and, yes, even the Hokie Pokie! The students received instruction on several age old Bible tales such as the Story of Moses, David and the Lion's Den, and the Birth of Jesus--lssons that included the inherant message behind the text. Many accolades must surely be given to the various organizations and boards at Flipper who were responsible for providing dinner after each session. But the action did not end at the closing of the event Friday night. Saturday, the sponsors chartered a tour bus and treated the kids to a thrilling day at Wild Adventures Amusement Park in Valdosta, GA. Those who went truly had a glorious time stuffing themselves with corn-dogs, screaming over the roller coasters, and getting competely drenched on the water rides. Despite a brief moment when our very own Editor seemed to misplace one of his THREE rambunctious charges (who was, thankfully, quickly spotted by some fellow Flipperites!), the day went off without a glich. Congradulations to Sis. Fitz-Jones, Sis. Herring, and Dr. Elliot for another job well done.
