What's Happening!
Christians in the Line of Duty

WalterMcNeil On Sunday, February 11 Flipper Chapel's Lay Organization will host our annual Founder's Day/Lay Day Observance. This year, in keeping with the theme. "Christians: Protecting the Community, Serving God", the festivities are dedicated to the men and women of Greater Tallahassee's protective service community. Our very own Bro. Melvin Herring (see In The Spotlight) will deliver the message during the 11:00 morning worship which will highlight the life of our beloved founder Bishop Richard Allen with special recognition given to dedicated Flipperite Bro. C.E, Walker. That same afternoon, at 4pm we will welcome various representatives of the area's protective services for a special address to be given by Chief Walter McNeil (left) of the Tallahassee Police Department. Additionally Bro. Oscar Lightfoot has graciously volunteered to provide dinner for those in attendance following the service. We sincerely hope that you make plans to attend and help the Laity give thanks to these brave individuals who place their lives on the line on a continual basis so that we, the general public, might enjoy a sense of security and well-being in our everyday lives.

For Us, By Us!

AMELogoOn Friday, February 2 officials of the AME Church held the first Board of Directors meeting of AME Reinsurance, LTD--an insurance company wholly owned and operated by the AME Church for the AME Church--in Hamilton, Bermuda. Incorporated in the previous week, AME Reinsurance was formulated to cover the insurance needs of the denomination and eventually internalize the Connection's insurance purchasing so that these funds can stay within the AME Church. Bishop Phillip R. Cousins, prelate of the 4th Episcopal District and a driving force behind self-insuring, is the chairman of the new company. For more information, please go to AME-Today.com website.
