Our Beginnings

This month our special Imani, or Faith, Offering is composed by our editor, Bro. Michael Catledge, and, in keeping with Black History Month, is an historical reflection on the beginnings of the AME Church. Please take some time, read this fascinating account and familairize yourself with our AME beginnings.

The Monthly Word: A Warning Against Turning From God
by Sis. Laura Adams

SisLauraAdams&LtGovBroganLast month we spoke on faith. This month, we shall continue on the faith line. In some of our lives, we have faced many issues in the last month. For many of us, sometimes faith gets lost with the issues we are dealing with at hand. Let's recall the message of Hebrews that warns us against turning from God. Try to live at peace with everyone. Live a clean life. If you do not you will never see the Lord. Make certain no one misses out on God's wonderful kindness. Do not let anyone become bitter and cause trouble for the rest of you. Watch out for immoral and ungodly people, like Esau who sold his future blessing for only one meal. Remember how he wanted it back but there was nothing Esau could do to change things even though he begged Isaac, his father, and cried. We all will deal with all kinds of issues in this world before we leave it. But, it is how we leave things that say what kind of person we are. One of those issues should be "Is what I am doing pleasing to God?" The decisions that we make need to have God in the front of them at all times. Keep the faith, I repeat, keep the faith and never doubt God for what you go through. This month please read with me Hebrews, Chapter 12 and tell God thank you for being in the plan of life. In that plan you can be saved. There is an answer to all problems. No matter how big or small, He can handle them.

Each month I will be thanking all those who do things without looking for someone else to tell them to. You are a Star and I am proud, as is God, that you love Him enough to do the very best in His glory. God is smiling and saying thank you my little star for not waiting on others to do what needs to be done. This months stars are:

Bro. Oscar Lightfoot, Sis. Margaret Ward, Bro. Jesse Cumbie, Sis. Julie Catledge, Bro. Mike Catledge, Bro. Gary and Sis. Campbell, Sis. Patricia Peterson, Sis, China Evans, Sis, Ruby Edwards, Sis. Lucy Pride, Sis. Ruth Armstrong, Sis. Coreen Johnson, Bro. Willie Johnson, Sis. Beulah Gregory, and Pastor Bell.

To all our children for there hard practices in getting ready for Black Heritage weekend and to all the parents as well. God is pleased when children keep there heart and minds on Him for what is right. He will stand with each and every one of us and open the books. Then and only then will there be no question asked to which way we are going. That is because you have lived it and died for it. Thanks again, my friends, for all that you do. Remember you are always a star in God's eyes as well as others.

Pastoral History: Rev. Elijah Hill
"Bring All The Little Children To Me"

RevElijahHillThis month, in this segment we at Praise think it appropriate to pay brief homage to Rev. Elijah Hill--beloved founder and first pastor of Flipper Chapel AME Church. Like Bishop Allen, one day while watching children play in the streets Rev. Hill recognized that Tallahassee's Bond Community had a need and out of that one revelation sprang our great and humble church. Please click here for more information regarding the life and deeds of this dedicated man of God.
